🌿 Meet Goodworth Clatford Vineyard - A Hampshire Gem with Heart
Some vineyards start with big investors. This one began with two glasses of wine, an empty paddock, and a brilliant idea at age seventy.
Mark and Cecilia Haszlakiewicz have lived in Goodworth Clatford for over 20 years. One evening, with the children gone and the horses retired, Mark looked at the field beside their home and said:
“Don’t you think this old paddock would make a brilliant vineyard?”
Cecilia: “If we’re doing it, we’d better do it now.”
So, in 2016 they planted 1,325 vines, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, on their chalky slope above the River Anton (the trout on the label is a tribute). Helping them from day one is Fred, their 50-year-old tractor who flatly refuses to retire and still tackles the vineyard with absolute pride.
By 2021 their first sparkling wine was ready, and today Goodworth is producing small batch English fizz that’s winning awards and winning hearts.
We’re delighted to welcome two of their wines into the Lunzer Wine shop:
🥂 Goodworth Classic Blend 2021 Brut
Silver medal winning. Crisp apples, lively acidity, and a clean, confident finish.
🥂 Goodworth Chardonnay 2019 Brut (to follow shortly)
Refined and bright, with lemon, hazelnut and beautiful elegance. Limited production.
Why we love them:
Because it’s proper English sparkling made with soul, two wonderful humans, a paddock, a heroic half century old tractor, and a dream fulfilled.
Want to visit? You can, and you should.
They host tours and tastings (a lively, personal experience), and if you’re lucky, you’ll be whisked through the vines in their iconic golf buggy.
