In my opinion, Sauvignon Blanc is often too flowery and overblown in many New World offerings. In France, the same grape, when treated carefully, leaves a completely different impression. 

The world of Pouilly Fumé is sometimes missed by lovers of this refreshing grape variety, for the simple reason that the variety is not mentioned on the label! 

The next problem is that not all Pouilly Fumés are made equal...! The name itself is often a guarantee of a sale and some producers are not really that skillful.

Being selective is the answer and if you find a Fumé in a pub at a modest price, my advice is probably to avoid it.

The Domaine Serge Dagueneau & Filles dating back to the 1920's is a master of the art of creating balance with complexity, whilst keeping the backbone of acidity to keep the wine fresh.
