Chakana Estate Selection Malbec 2020 Mendoza Argentina (6x75cl)
Chakana Estate Selection Malbec 2020 Mendoza Argentina (6x75cl)
Another new listing for us is this 100% Malbec made by Gabriel Bloise.
One of the most vital bits to know about, when selecting Malbec from Argentina, is the altitude of the vineyards!
The reason quite simply, is that vines need to cool and rest at night and in a hot climate, the only way to guarantee this is altitude (or in California, the Pacific Ocean breeze!)
These grapes are sourced at 1,100-1,300m above sea level - Ideal!
This wine is a small production of just 6,000 cases per year and as such it is treated with kid gloves.
The ageing is in 70% oak barriques and 30% in concrete tanks for 10 to 12 months. The result is smooth as silk and plenty of retained ripe fruit to shroud Malbec's often stern tannins.
p.s. The Chakana is the Southern Cross constellation named by the indigenous Inca people!
